Ballet Tucson’s 19th Annual Dance & Dessert
Ballet Tucson’s annual Dance & Dessert has become a “must see” event for the Tucson community. An eclectic array of exciting ballets will be presented to wrap up the company’s 2019-2020 season Mar. 13-15 at the Stevie Eller Dance Theatre. As an added treat, gourmet dessert tastings are served at the conclusion of each performance, making this a much anticipated and often sold-out gathering for seasoned dance lovers and newbies alike.
This year, the company premieres George Balanchine’s neo-classical ballet Concerto Barocco with special permission by the New York City Ballet. This dance visualization of Bach’s Concerto in D Minor for Two Violins was one of Balanchine’s favorites, and is as relevant today as it was when it debuted in 1948.
The spring concert also includes Gemini, Ballet Master Daniel Precup’s dance adaptation of the Greek legend of twins Castor and Pollux, and the story behind the formation of the constellation.
Of special interest will be the main stage premiere of this season’s first-place “Footprints at the Fox” emerging choreography winner. Jennifer Holoubek’s creation, La Terre Vue du Ciel, or Earth From Above is an emotionally moving work with striking images, patterns and contemporary dance style movement.
In addition, other entertaining works from Ballet Tucson’s repertoire will complete the program.
