A Natural Progression
Having grown up on a Midwest farm, Moira Geoffrion has long been drawn to depicting nature in its many guises. Working in both sculptural and two-dimensional mediums, she is a multifaceted artist whose work has been exhibited in more than 200 museums, galleries and private collections in the U.S., Europe and Australia.
Over the past two decades, Geoffrion has been commissioned to make more than a dozen public artworks, including the First Avenue Road and Bridge Project, and the Rancho Vista Park and Ride Station, both in Oro Valley.
In 1986, Geoffrion moved to Tucson and became the head of the art department at the University of Arizona. Since her retirement in 2011, she has remained a prolific artist. One of her most recent undertakings was painting portraits of important Arizona women. Additionally, she is the president of the Tucson Museum of Art’s Contemporary Art Society, which raises money to support contemporary art shows at TMA and to purchase contemporary art for the collection.
As a member of the 1954 Circle at the University of Arizona Museum of Art, she is assisting in organizing a fashion show benefit for Nov. 5, 2016, in which several Project Runway All Stars are participating. The event — Head to Toe — will showcase one-ofa- kind wearable art.
Geoffrion’s work can be found at Mark Sublette Modern.
