Tucson Desert Art Museum

In the Museum

THE DAZZLED EYE: Navajo Textiles from the Getzwiller Collection, which explores the story of Navajo eyedazzlers and optical art, continues through May 28th. Continuing in the Museum are three related exhibitions exploring Perspectives on Japanese American Incarceration through April 30. These include:

GAMBATTE! Legacy of an Enduring Spirit, an exhibit by Paul Kitagaki, Jr.

Behind Barbed Wire: Japanese American Incarceration in Arizona.

Art of Circumstance: Art and Artifacts created by Japanese Americans Incarcerated During World War II.

In the Gallery

First Americans, an art show and sale honoring the history and resilience of Native Americans opens March 3rd with a reception at 5:30 pm and continues through April 30.

The Museum’s Permanent Collection showcases a premier collection of Native American textiles, classical and contemporary paintings and photography, and other artifacts that tell the stories of the Desert Southwestern region.

Metal Arts Village

Tucson Botanical Gardens

Events: Butterfly Magic, through May 31, 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. See tropical butterflies up close and personal in a greenhouse filled with orchids and other tropical flora.

Frida Kahlo: Art, Garden, Life Exhibit, through May. The exhibit will run for eight months accompanied by cultural celebrations and educational programming throughout and examines her significant work through the lens of botanical themes and nature.

Frida Al Fresco, March 31, 5-8 p.m. Enjoy the Frida Kahlo exhibit after hours in the beautifully lit gardens. Features a farmers market, food, drink, live music, look-alike contests, flower crowns and more.

Classes: Pruning Fruit Trees, March 8, 10-11 a.m. $15

DIY Desert Design — Spring 2017, Saturdays, Mar. 11, 18, 25, Apr. 1, 8 and 15, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. This six-class course will provide the information you need to plan a successful garden. $125

Edible Plant Tour and Tasting, Thursday, March 16, 10-11 a. m., $25

Yume Japanese Gardens of Tucson

Spring 2017 Ikebana Flower Arrangement Festival, through March 2, free with admission to the gardens. Check their website for classes in the two schools of Ikebana to learn how to create these magnificent floral arrangements.

Pima County Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners

Check the website for classes and lectures. Tours of the Demonstration Gardens: every Wednesday and Saturday of each month, except in January, near major holidays or in bad weather.
