The Best Thing About Being an ISI Skater is... If you are old enough to have a Facebook page, are you following ISI? Keep up with ISI programs and events, and share your thoughts about skating. Here’s how some of our Facebook followers completed the following sentence: “The best thing about being an ISI skater is ___________________________.”

“... all the fun we have skating.”

“... being able to skate for fun with your friends, and not having the competitive edge overwhelm you!”

“... having an excuse to wear a dress and tights at any age, and meeting new friends.”

“... all the great coaches and skaters that work with me.”

“... being able to inspire my entire family (including my husband) to start skating. ISI is for ANYONE at ANY AGE. And ISI lets me travel the nation doing national events.”

“... being the mother of one! Something for us to be involved in together when most teenagers are off doing their own thing.”

“... making lots of friends from around the world at national competitions without having the competitiveness you get with [other organizations]. It’s so fun to then cheer each other on the next time you see them!”

“... seeing all the great photos in the ISI magazine!”

“... the friends you make on the ice.”

“... going out there with your friends and participating.”

“... skating as an adult for the passion, thrill and fun of pushing yourself to pass new levels and learn new skills.”

“... being on the ice and performing lots of different programs!” “... creativity, learning and having fun!”

“... ISI gives me the chance to be creative and push myself to achieve new goals and hang out with some terrific new friends.”

“... it gives me a reason to smile every day and look forward to the next time I get to lace up my boots, step on the ice, breathe in that wonderful ice aroma and glide my troubles away!” “... the long-lasting friendships gained.”

“... being able to let go, be yourself and let everyone see the real you. I am never more myself than when I am skating. ISI makes this all possible. The variety of events offered gives every side of you a chance to shine — your creative side, your silly side, your expressive side. You can be all of you with ISI.”

2012 Rule Revisions Update

Please note the following important update to the recently announced 2012 Rule Revisions:

Synchro team skaters are now limited to compete at one age division lower than their true age division (for example, a 12-year old Sr. Youth team skater can skate on a Youth team, but not on a Jr. Youth Team). Skaters can compete in any higher age division category.* All age divisions still require a MAJORITY of skaters — but not every skater — to fit within the age division for that team.

We apologize for any confusion with this new synchro team rule and wish you and your teams a successful synchro season!

* This new sentence is a revised wording change from previously printed versions of the 2012 Rule Revisions. This update information was incorrect in the Rule Revisions printed in the fall issues of the EDGE and Recreational Ice Skating and the Instructor Seminar manual; however, this new update will be included in the new 2012 ISI Handbook that will be available in December.
