The Village Board of Oak Brook are to be congratulated for maintaining a high degree of fire safety for present and future residents by updating its building and fire codes using the 2009 Editions of the International Building (IBC), Fire (IFC) and Residential (IRC) series of codes with a fire sprinkler threshold of 1,000 square feet for commercial buildings including multifamily. All new single-family homes will be fire sprinkler protected using the NFPA 13D standard, joining 70 other Illinois communities. In addition, all high-rise buildings have been retrofit. The trustees and members of the Oak Brook Village Board should be proud of their long tradition of fire safety protecting their community now and into the future . Village President John W.
