ODA TODAY Message from the Executive Director Important things are happening! Get them on your calendar... F. Lynn Means First, I want to congratulate our Editor, Dr. Raymond Cohlmia, for being selected as the recipient of the 2010 American Dental Association and American Association of Dental Editors (AADE) Distinguished Dental Editor Award! The Award was presented by ADA President, Dr. Ronald Tankersley, and the ADA Executive Director, Dr. Kathleen O’Loughlin, during the recent 2010 AADE Annual Conference in Orlando. Way to go, Dr. C! Thank you for all you do for the ODA and for our ODA Journal, and for always making the ODA and Oklahoma dentistry look good! I would like to encourage you to consider making an end-of-the-year, tax-deductible, gift to your ODA Building Fund. The ODA building is a wonderful asset for YOU, the ODA member, and if we retire the mortgage, we will save your Association approximately $30,000 annually. Thank you to those members who have already contributed to the Building Fund (please find a list of those donors on page 15), and if you have not contributed, please consider a one-time donation to YOUR building before the end of 2010! You should be receiving your 2011 dues statement in the mail soon. For the first time, we are proud to be able to offer you the ability to pay your dues online. We hope you find this service more convenient and streamlined. Look for information on online dues pay in your dues statement and feel free to contact us with any questions or comments. While paying your 2011 dues, I hope you will also consider joining DENPAC, your political action committee. Currently, only about 1/3 of our members belong to DENPAC. We HAVE to increase this number if dentistry is to continue to have input into state laws that affect your practice, your patients and your profession. Please send a personal check to the ODA, payable to DENPAC, in the amount of $165 ($49 of which supports ADPAC). Or, for an additional $300, you can join DENPAC’s OKCapitol Club. Thank you to those ODA members who joined DENPAC in 2010! Please find a list of those on page 10. If you haven’t done so already, I strongly encourage you to register yourself, your entire dental office staff, and your spouse, to volunteer for our 2nd Annual Oklahoma Mission of Mercy (OkMOM)! Registration is online at www.okmom.org. OkMOM is scheduled in Oklahoma City, February 4-5, 2011. Please join us as the entire Oklahoma dental community comes together to provide desperately-needed dental care to the anticipated 2,000 Oklahomans we’ll meet that weekend. VOLUNTEER TODAY – WE NEED YOU! Please mark your calendar for the 2011 ODA Dentist Day at the Capitol, Tuesday, March 1st! You’ll find a registration form on page 11. This is a great opportunity for you to help the ODA further your legislative goals. Join us for the whole day, or just the portion that fits into your schedule. ODA Executive Director F. Lynn Means Look for your ODA Annual Meeting Registration Packet in the mail in January. Dr. Lindsay Smith, Chair of the Annual Meeting Planning Committee, and his team of volunteers, are busy planning a weekend-packed event that will provide over 70 hours of CE for you and every member of your staff, multiple social events and other networking opportunities, a 110+ company Exhibit Hall, and much more! I hope to see you in Tulsa, April 28-30th! Find more information about the ODA Annual Meeting on pages 18 and 44. Finally, I want to congratulate Linda Campbell, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry and Honorary ODA Member, on her retirement at the end of this year.
