POP NOIR DIY : Page 5
GIFTED & NOIR The brothers formed Pop Noir while still students at the prestigious Orange County High School of the Arts, the duo debuting in late 2004 with a show in an abandoned indoor skatepark in Costa Mesa. Building a following at all- ages venues throughout Southern California, they soon progressed to playing the indie rock clubs of Silverlake and Hollywood. Early radio play came from L.A.’s Indie 103.1fm, and local college stations, and the band’s myspace page helped build a sizeable international fanbase. Pop Noir has headlined such Los Angeles landmarks asTheViper Room,The Echo,The Echoplex,The Knitting Factory and Club NME at Spaceland, headlined the uber-hip Dim Mak night at Cinespace alongside Steve Aoki, landed residencies at Hollywood’s Key Club and Costa Mesa's Detroit Bar, and supported such luminaries as Doves,TheWombats, SebastienTellier, Kinky, Iglu & Hartly, Robyn and The Pinkertones. Radio support has come from Kat Corbett at KROQ to Scotland’s premier tastemaker Jim Gellatly, and the band has made numerous appearances on internetTV stations. In late 2006, Pop Noir made its European debut, playing a packed showcase at Manchester's legendary "InThe City" conference, headlining shows atTheWindmill and Dublin Castle in London, and filling the celebrated Fleche D'Or in Paris. On their return to Los Angeles, the brothers recruited drummer Nico Saavedra. The Chilean’s thundering style has added an extra dimension to the music, and brought a visceral power to Pop Noir’s all-action live show. They’ve been featured on a number of compilation CDs, including releases from Indie 103.1fm, a Strummerville fundraiser and a covermount cd from hip UK mag Artrocker. When Pop Noir released “Girls of Prey” as an exclusive download on RCRDLBL, it debuted in the sites’sTop 10, alongside the likes of Moby and Santigold.
