End Caps Southern Family Market To Acquire Bruno’s & Food World Supermarkets Southern Family Markets (SFM), a supermarket operator in the Southeast, submitted the winning bid at a bankruptcy auction held on April 30 for the store locations and assets of Bruno’s Supermarkets, LLC. A federal judge approved the sale on May 4. Southern Family Mar- kets is an affiliate of C&S Wholesale Grocers, Inc., of Keene, N.H. SFM will acquire the rights to all Bruno’s and Food World locations and will operate up to 31 stores. SFM will also acquire all intellectual property rights of Bruno’s including the “Bruno’s” and “Food World” banners. SFM’s bidding partner, Hilco Merchant Resources, will liqui- date the remaining stores that will cease operation. Jeffery Burkhead, senior vice president and general manager of SFM, stated: “SFM is extremely excited about the results of the auction and the combination of the SFM and Bruno’s operations. Having worked at Bruno’s myself for eight years before joining SFM, I know what great stores Bruno’s can operate. Bruno’s is an institution in the Alabama marketplace, and SFM is proud to be able to continue their long tradition of excellence and service.
