The line was too long so Lou’s friend got them seated in the kitchen. Lou was impressed and told the “boss,” who was Gene Leone, Mama Leone’s son, that he hoped to have his own Italian restaurant someday. Well, Gene gave Lou a cookbook he had written. The cookbook became the basis for many of the recipes at Luigi’s today. Now covered with stains, the cookbook still serves as a reminder of the act of kindness which inspired Lou to open the fi rst and fi nest Italian Restaurant in Roanoke. ~prices and selections subject to change~ 17
