Opening festivities began with a presentation of the colors by the Golden Gate Junior ROTC followed by a patriotic sing-along of “America the Beautiful” led by our Master of Ceremonies, Jeff Lytle (Naples Daily News). As one participant stated, “What a great opportunity this has been to meet candi-dates in an informal setting, ask questions and observe their interaction with oth-ers up close. This has really given me the chance to determine who I will vote for in the 2010 election.” Dave Elliott, who does his radio show live from the Hilton Hotel every Wednesday, interviewed candidates on his show throughout the event. Special recognition for the record turn-out must go to CBIA’s “Politics in the Park” committee, Melissa Ahern, Dave Aldrich, Pierre Bruno, Kathy Curatolo, Mike Rosen and Mont Williams. Members of CBIA, Ciccarelli Advisory Services and the Col-lier County Young Republican Club vol-unteered throughout the day and evening helping with set-up, registration and the “Straw Poll” vote. The Sand Dollar Awards, the highest accolades given by the council, are pre-sented each year to member builders, de-velopers, architects, remodelers, interior design firms, landscape architects, trades, marketing, sales and advertising profes-sionals who have demonstrated build-ing, design and marketing excellence. Homes, communities, building projects and marketing campaigns completed be-tween May 1, 2008 and May 31, 2010 are eligible. The early entry deadline is July 9 and the late entry deadline is July 16. Winners will be honored at an awards gala on September 18 at the Naples Grande. The Supervisor of Elections, Jennifer Edwards, and her staff were on-hand throughout the event to facilitate and monitor the “Straw Poll” vote. When the count was completed, 597 people voted! Here are the results of the vote:

The Sand Dollar Awards, the highest accolades given by the council, are presented each year to member builders, developers, architects, remodelers, interior design firms, landscape architects, trades, marketing, sales and advertising professionals who have demonstrated building, design and marketing excellence.
