LOWERTOWn, DOWnTOWn SaInT PauL This popular neighborhood, located just blocks east of downtown Saint Paul, is a collection of historic buildings housing unique bars, art galleries and cultural restaurants all centered around Mears Park. Its recent revitalization has made it the go-to spot for nightlife in Minneapolis Saint Paul. ITINERARY ✔ Morning : Grab a locally roasted espresso drink from Black Dog Coffee & Wine Bar and then hit the Lowertown Farmers’ Market (weekends April-November). This farmers’ market is unique because nearly every item is produced within 50 miles of Saint Paul. ✔ noon : Explore Union Depot, a once bustling trans- portation hub in the early 1900s that now houses a restaurant, retail and condos, and will be the major Saint Paul hub for Light Rail Transit in 2014. For lunch, try some home-style Japanese cooking at Tanpopo noodle Shop. Finally, enjoy the sounds of the man-made creek that flows through Mears Park. FARMeRS’ MARkeT ✔ nighT : At Barrio, you can enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine and delicious, top-shelf tequila drinks. The Bulldog, located right next door, offers 40 beers from around the world to complement your burger or hot dog. In June, check out the Twin Cities Jazz Festival in Mears Park in the evenings—Prince was rumored to have attended in 2009, watching from his limo.
