Directed by the internationally acclaimed Osmo Vanska, the Minnesota Orchestra ranks among Americafs top symphonic ensembles. The orchestra presents nearly 200 programs annually, with this yearfs performances including Sudbin Plays Beethoven (April 11-13), Varga and Mozart (May 16-18) and Dvo r.akfs New World Symphony (May 30 & 31 and June 1 & 2). The orchestra is performing at the Minneapolis Convention Center until their home at Orchestra Hall is finished with its extensive renovations and reopens for the 2013-2014 season. Widely regarded as one of the finest chamber orchestras in the world, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra performs more than 130 concerts each year and tours both internationally and nationally. This season, catch the chamber perform Mozart and the Modernists (April 26-28), Viennese Masters (May 2-5), Mendelssohn, Debussy and Pintscher (May 24-26) or Mahlerfs Fourth Symphony (June 6-8).<br /> <br /> Vocals <br /> <br /> Great voices can be heard in each of Minneapolis Saint Paul’s talented vocal groups. Best known for its work with the area’s two major orchestras, Minnesota Chorale is the principal chorus of the Minnesota Orchestra and among the foremost professional choruses in the country. Hear them perform an all-Bach program in Awake the Voice (April 6 & 7) . Directed by the famed Philip Brunelle, VocalEssence has been presented with more Chorus America awards than any other ensemble in the U.S. Each season the group performs an eclectic series of concerts, including this year’s English Garden (March 9) and Paul Bunyan (April 26 & 27). Bel canto, or beautiful singing, can be found in the Minnesota Opera, whose techni - cal performances always convey intense emotion.This season, enjoy the melodies and theatricality of Shakespeare’s Hamlet (March 2-10) or Puccini’s Turandot (April 13-21).<br /> <br /> Dance <br /> <br /> The Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts, one of the area’s newest performance venues, serves as the flagship center for dance in the cities.Here, dance companies like James Sewell Ballet (April 5-7 & 12-14), Zenon Dance Company (May 3-5 & 10-12), Minnesota Dance Theatre (May 16-19) and Black Label Movement (June 28-30) take the stage.Find even more movement at The Southern Theater, a contemporary performing arts center that encourages artistic exploration.
