This sublime home is located near wilderness areas high in the Rocky Mountains. The natural setting and active lifestyle of the homeowners dictate an engineering goal that preserves safe, seamless transitions between the picturesque landscapes, the pleasures of a restful, luxurious design, and the vibrancy of multi-tasking family members. Accomplishing such a lofty mission was no walk in the park for Cobalt Automation. “The entire first floor is built on slab, which meant that virtually all wire runs travel through ceiling joists, iron support beams and framing,” says the company. Making matters worse, all the equipment is located at one end of the open floor plan, necessitating lengthy wire runs and slow, laborious pulls. Great care was necessary while wiring through confined spaces and challenging construction obstacles. The home control system is designed for complete homeowner accessibility at select private areas and limited, local control to guest quarters and public rooms in the home. From there, the clients can view the 10-camera CCTV system on Crestron touchscreens. Interestingly, special consideration was given to help the family discriminate between wildlife (like frequent moun- tain lions, coyotes, occasional bears, and the playful movements of an exploring family dog) and prowlers. Eleven Crestron touchscreens deliver music from the comprehensive family collection throughout the interior rooms, including exercise gym, kitchen, home office, children’s spaces and the outdoor garden terrace, satisfying the client’s desire to select audio mood and tempo appropri- ate to the activities in each room. Lighting was also important. Interior and exterior lighting scenes provide the ultimate in convenience and conserve energy. n equipment Contact the CEDIA ESC for a complete equipment list.
