Meet Our Project Makeover Winner
Born and raised in Cochabamba, Bolivia
Degree in electrical engineering
Married to Joel Cepin
Mother to Estrella, Moses, Esperanza and Lazarus
Why she wanted to win the makeover:
“I need help to improve myself and I’m tired. I don’t have the energy to do it alone. I have wanted to do this for years but pregnancies and life got in the way.”
STEP 1: Style and closet evaluations
Blanca saw in her closet who she was many years ago with very boring clothes, and who she wants to be — a mother who is well put together, has style but is still comfortable. She realized the time she was spending on herself was next to nothing and it showed. She also learned the best clothes that complement her body type (apple) and (petite frame), and that her best assets are her gorgeous legs, skin tone, arms, beautiful face and smile. She learned techniques on how to accentuate those areas as much as possible, drawing the eye away from her challenging midsection area.
For a petite frame, the ultimate goal is to elongate the body, lengthen and give the illusion of a taller you. For an apple body type (i.e., a fuller, rounded stomach), you want to create a slimmer waist and balance the upper and lower halves.
These style elements help to achieve a longer, slimmer look: ruching; detailing on sleeves; V necklines; woven fabrics rather than knit such as jersey (nothing clingy); patterns and prints; wrap dresses; drop waists; shirt dresses.
STEP 2: Dillard’s shopping trip
We found beautiful pieces at Dillard’s with the $700 prize money. Since Blanca is a stay-at-home mom and property manager we were looking for casual, fun, well-fitting clothes. The “uniform” selected — a great pair of jeans and leggings for the season and beautiful tops that were steps up from her boring T-shirts. She also needed some new shoes for the wow factor!
STEP 3: Accentuating her features
Armani was the makeup line and Samantha Ruiz at Dillard’s was the makeup artist. Makeup was applied using Artis Brushes, resulting in a flawless natural finish. Brows filled in, lids shadowed, and kohl eyeliner to bring out her eyes. Rosy brown lipstick was chosen to show off Blanca’s full luscious lips.
“Everyone involved in my makeover kept saying, ‘You are so beautiful.’ I couldn’t help but believe it. It was good for my soul.”
Jones New York Leopard Blouse, Free People skinny ankle jeans, Gianni Bini olive platform sandals
You don’t have to be skinny to wear skinny jeans — you just have to know how to wear them! In Blanca’s case, the leopard top fits perfectly, skimming the body and concealing her tummy. The blouse has a V shape at her neckline, which also is flattering. The jeans and shoes make her look tall and very chic, and taking the elevator up with a high heel is an added plus for a petite frame.
Theory Black Dress, Antonio Melani Shoes, Blanca’s turquoise beads
The Black dress is simple and drapes beautifully to conceal her tummy area. It is a drop waist, wrap shirt dress, which is a trifecta for an apple body type! The turquoise necklaces draw attention upward around her face and add a pop of color. The hem length shows off her legs and highlights her shoes, which are very Pradaesque, without the Prada price.
Antonio Melani coral silk shell, Antonio Melani oatmeal vest, Free People skinny jeans, Blanca’s beads.
The coral shell is a punch of color and the vest adds structure. Structured clothing slims Blanca’s waistline along with creating a layered look without the bulk because the tops are both sleeveless. A cardigan or jacket could be added for continued layering, but the vest is the detail a lot of us would not think to do.

The horizontal stripes make her look wider, and the kneelength capris give her the illusion of being frumpy and short. Her sandals complete the bad outfit.
