Headaches, sore throats, red, itchy eyes and sneezing; every parent of a child with seasonal allergies dreads this time of year. What most parents don’t realize is that there is an alternative to subjecting their children to traditional allergy treatments. Chiropractic care is most often associated with back and neck problems, but is also a very successful treatment for allergies. The body’s immune system helps prevent disease and infection, deals with stress, and manages overall health. The immune system also combats the invasion of foreign substances such as pollution, dust, and pollen. When a child’s immune system is not working properly, it can overreact to all foreign substances. The body responds by overproducing neutralizing chemicals such as histamines to correct the problem. Chiropractic care helps the immune system function more effectively by releasing the stress on the nervous system. A healthier nervous system means the body can perform at its best and this is especially important for children that suffer from allergies. A spinal manipulation or adjustment can be done by a chiropractor to correct vertebral subluxations or misalignments that cause stress on the nervous system. Once corrected, your child’s body will be capable of working more effi ciently to counteract the allergy-causing agents in the environment. Improving your child’s nerve function results in better overall health for your child and allows the body to innately correct itself. Dr. Eleanor L.
