Exercises are designed to improve flexibility, tone body muscles and improve the cardiovascular system. Each individual can work at his or her own pace without putting stress on joints. Black Bob Bay AMERICAN RED CROSS WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR TRAINING CLASS (WSI) AGES: 16 & UP• FOUR 7 1/2 HOUR CLASSES $150 SESSION DATE: *MAY 27 – MAY 30* MUST ATTEND ALL CLASSES TIME: 8:30 AM -NOON POOL TIME 12:30 PM -5:00 PM CLASSROOM Must attend all classes Must be 16 years of age on or before the final scheduled session and successfully complete fundamentals of instructor training (included in this course) and demonstrate ability to perform the following swimming skills at level 4 performance: 1) swim 25 yards each of front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, and sidestroke; 2) swim 15 yards of butterfly; 3) float or scull on back one minute in deep water; 4) tread water for one minute. Must attend all dates and times, no exceptions. Deadline: 1 week prior to start date. Saturday, May 31 will serve as a rain date. Participants will be in water training from 8:30-12 and in the classroom from 1-5 p.m. Lunch is on your own. This class will prepare you for a fun and rewarding job. The class emphasizes professionalism, prevention, scanning, victim recognition, disease prevention and equipment-based rescues. CPR First Aid and A.E.D. certification is included along with textbooks and a CPR mask. Successful completion of the class will earn you the certifications you need. Because of equipment rental and subjects covered, attendance is mandatory and crucial to all sessions. Prerequisites-must pass the first night to go on in class. 1. Swim 300 yards continuously, using these strokes in the following order: • 100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick. Rhythmic breathing to the side or to the front. • 100 yards of breaststroke. • 100 yards of either front crawl using rhythmic breathing or breaststroke. This 100 yards may be a mixture of front crawl and breaststroke. 2. Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7–10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point exiting within 1 minute 40 seconds. 3.
