LIVING UNITED A PUBLICATION OF UNITED WAY OF GREATER ROCHESTER SPRING 2012 VOLUME 5 ISSUE 1 “ I WAS LOOKING FOR FOOD AND SHELTER. WHAT I FOUND WAS A GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO WANTED TO HELP ME FIND MY INDEPENDENCE.” KEY TO SUCCESS Lee Martin faced so many problems that he didn’t know where to start to get back on track. Homelessness, illness and hunger were just some immediate concerns he needed to address. He went to a community center looking for help. He found a group of dedicated people working together to help people like him facing a crisis completely turn their lives around and get back on the path to independence. Lee Martin is on the road to independence thanks to the Emergency Service Providers Collaborative. Many crisis services programs provide a short-term solution that may not address some more difficult challenges a person must face before they can truly move on. The Emergency Service Providers Collaborative, supported by United Way of Greater Rochester’s Community Fund, harnesses the power of staff members from many different agencies with different backgrounds. These dedicated people work together to focus on long-term success for clients by helping them lay the groundwork for independence for years to come. continued on page 2
